ABOUT US

The Literary Club is one of the oldest clubs of IIT Indore. Since its inception in 2010, till date, it is one of the most active clubs of IIT Indore. It has always strived to develop an environment where literary excellence is both fostered and developed. With an initial focus on establishing a tradition that purports to the burgeoning urge to express yourself with whatever assistance an imperfect dialect provides, the club has finally recognised the futility of this arduous task. But well, it’s still fun.

Over the years, the club has also expanded by venturing into avenues featuring rhetoric (Monthly Debates) and journalism (Newsletter). IIT-I’s monthly newsletter ‘IMPRINT’, started in October 2014, is the recognition of journalism as a literary praxis. From covering college events to global issues, IMPRINT aims to provide fresh perspectives and developments in every edition. Along with the annual magazine ‘INSCRIPTION’, these two publications often keep the club busy all year. Apart from these the monthly events include Ransense, Cook a Story, Pottermania, Cache of Lexis, Codex Inspicio, Spell Bee, GOT Quiz, MUN and many more!

WHY THE LITERARY CLUB?

The Literary Club being the oldest club on campus, has a lot to offer. Follow your passion for literature with the continuous set of exciting events round the year. Prepare yourself to embrace challenges from outside the campus as well. Don't let your ideas get confined in that small piece of flesh, instead bring it out on a piece of paper. If reading any book releases endorphins, dopamine and seretonin into your nerves, then you have come to the right place. Explore the subtlety of any particular language. Experience every emotion of a poetry. Make friends with the comic characters. Solve psychedelic puzzles and quizzes. Come, live in this utopia with us.

Codex Inspicio

Codex Inspicio is a book review competition. There is no particular constraint on the pattern of writing the review. You can write up your views about the theme of the book, or about the characters in the book and their traits. The review is then judged on the basis in which the review is written and upon your understanding of the story.

Cache Of Lexis

A one-of-a-kind event which requires you to wipe the cobwebs of your brain and exercise your mental faculties like you haven't done since your JEE! This event has a large participation every year. The objective is to crack codes, decode puzzles and connect all the dots, to reach the ultimate answer. If you are someone who loves solving problems, have keen observation skills and who can deduce answers to the most misleading problems; this is the chance for you to showcase your abilities. Of course there are hints everywhere around, it's just how close you look.

Fun Events

Short and fun events like Scrabble, Pictionary, Spell Bee and JAM (Just A Minute) attract many people. Pictionary is just like Charades wherein teammates try to guess the word the drawing is intended to represent. JAM is all about the control of the mind over the mouth. Can you make it through 60 sec of non-stop talking without hesitation, repetition, or deviation?

Cook A Story

In this event, you are provided with a set of visuals from which you need to cook a short story up. But there are rules and limitations! Firstly, the story must be an original composition. Ahough it can belong to any genre but there must be a clear connection between the story and all the three visuals provided and the story must have a title. There is no word limit.

Ransense

Ransense is a creative writing competition. So drill into the creative side of your mind and pick up your quills to carve a brand new piece of writing from scratch. If you can manage to spin a table out of pretty much any random thing, you're bound to fit right in here. It serves as the first screening test for this year's recruits for the club. So if you have hopes of being inducted into the club, you should probably bring your A-game. Previous articles can be found here.

Word Wars

Word Wars is the debating competition of IIT Indore. This event is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to improve his/her debating skills and enhance his/her performance in public speaking. But hold on because there are certain rules to follow. For each debate, there are 2 teams of 3 speakers each and the topic of the debate is given on the spot. The team in support of the topic is called the 'Government' and that opposes the topic is called the 'Opposition'. First speaker is from the 'Government', then from the 'Opposition' and so on. Short questions and interjections are allowed. However after the formation of DebSOC, all the debating events are now handled by it.

Quizzes

Quizzing competitions like Pottermania and Game Of Thrones quiz are often held by the club round the year. The GOT quiz, held after its gruelling season finale, was indeed the most thrilling quiz. Pottermania, a quiz for Harry Potter buffs, also grabbed everybody's attention. If you have watched the GOT TV series or Harry Potter movie series or are an avid reader of its books, you're pretty much obligated to show up.
